Reported Speech
Câu tường thuật (gián tiếp) thuật lại lời nói của người khác. Khi chuyển từ câu trực tiếp sang gián tiếp, ta thường lùi một thì và đổi đại từ, trạng từ chỉ thời gian/nơi chốn.
Dấu hiệu nhận biết đặc trưng
Quy tắc lùi thì: hiện tại đơn → quá khứ đơn; hiện tại tiếp diễn → quá khứ tiếp diễn.
Ví dụ thực tế:
✓ "I am tired" → He said he was tired.
✗ He said he is tired.
💡 am → was.
✓ "I work here" → She said she worked there.
Will → would; can → could; may → might; must → had to.
Ví dụ thực tế:
✓ "I will call" → She said she would call.
✓ "I can swim" → He said he could swim.
Đổi đại từ và trạng từ chỉ thời gian/nơi chốn: now → then, here → there, today → that day, tomorrow → the next day.
Ví dụ thực tế:
✓ "I live here" → He said he lived there.
💡 here → there.
✓ "I'll come tomorrow" → She said she would come the next day.
Câu hỏi tường thuật: dùng asked + if/whether (câu hỏi Yes/No) hoặc từ để hỏi.
Ví dụ thực tế:
✓ "Are you OK?" → He asked if I was OK.
✓ "Where do you live?" → She asked where I lived.
Cảnh báo lỗi thường gặp
✗ She said she is happy.
✓ She said she was happy.
💡 Lý do: Phải lùi thì: is → was.
✗ He said he will come.
✓ He said he would come.
💡 Lý do: will → would khi tường thuật.
✗ She asked where do I live.
✓ She asked where I lived.
💡 Lý do: Câu hỏi gián tiếp dùng trật tự câu khẳng định.
